Prof. Dong Youchen
As the post of the President, ISBS, fell vacant due to the sad demise of the Founder President of ISBS, Prof. Tsuyoshi Nara, Prof. Dong Youchen, China, the senior most Vice President of ISBS, has taken over as the President of ISBS, as per provision laid down in the constitution of the ISBS which mandates that if the sitting President passes away or resigns between two ICBS, the senior most (by date of birth) Vice President shall take over as the President of the organization.
Prof. Dong Youchen (1937), known for his Chinese translations of the works of Rabindranath Tagore, is a recipient of various awards from India and Bangladesh for his contribution in translating Bengali literary works in Chinese and towards promotion of the academic study of Bengali in China. Prof. Dong was a Professor at the Centre for Asia Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China; and the Vice Director of the Literature- History College of the Party School of Central Committee CP of China. At present he is holding the position of Professor Emeritus at the Party School of Central Committee CP of China. He has authored the Chinese biography of Rabindranath Tagore and has edited a six volume Chinese translation of Rabindranath Tagore's poems. He is currently leading a 17 member team of translators engaged in translating the complete works of Tagore in Chinese in 24 volumes.
